Unit 10 x
On 27/02 I got contacted by a client if I am available to create a logo for his company. He was about to open up a barbershop with another 4 co-workers and they needed a logo to represent their barbershop. Afterwards, I spoke with him to arrange what exactly he wants me to create. I gave him a day to think about the type-font/colors, design, if he wants me to include anything in the logo etc.
As soon as I received the offer I started planning in my head how I should approach the logo as I have never done one before for an actual company. I had an idea in my mind but I wanted to draw it on a paper first to see how it might look like. As you can see down below is one of my drawings, but the image looked too crowded and I, personally didn't like it. Also, my client said the next day as he wants a simple logo, without any scissors, machines, comb whatsoever.

As he didn't like my first idea, I started looking on Google images to see how other barbershops have their logo, most of them where with a male with beard and long hair, something that wanted to give the impression of "strong man". At first he mentioned that he wants a simple logo and the text to be only "Five guys"
So, I started to draw something again to see how it might look like. Down below is a picture of what I drew to represent their barbershop.
After I finished drawing in Illustrator the logo from above, I showed it to my client to see if he likes it. At first he said that it is looking good and I had left only to add in the text and then that was it. However, after I added in the text, I showed him the finished logo but he didn't like it and he showed me other ideas on how I should do the logo. Down below is a picture of the first attempt that my client didn't like.
I asked him what exactly he wants me to write and he was unsure about it. At first he mentioned "hairdressing", however, I asked him what his clients are going to be, female or male? Or both. Afterwards I explained to him that a logo mentioning "Barbershop" will bring more men clients where as "hairdressing" will bring more women clients. Therefore, he decided that I should use both.

I started creating the idea that he wanted, he liked it since the beginning and he further on explained to me that he wants a gold color inside the text and outside to be black stroke. So, I created what he asked for and after I finished it as you can see in the picture below he told me if I could add in any more effects. I told him that I don't think it will be a good idea to add in any more effects as the logo will be too crowded. After I told him that, I also showed him a preview of how it will look like when it will be done and he said that I should do it anyway because he likes it. (Down below is the preview)
After I did a female logo to represent the hairdressing I added it in to the logo and my client said that I looks nice and that should be the logo.
This was the second logo I tried to create for my client, but he wasn't happy with the outcome and he proposed to do something else, he even showed me a suggestion.

After he showed me his suggestion, it was much easier for me. He also told me to use a golden font-colour with black shadows and to have a cut in the middle where it will say "hairdressing & barbershop". (down below is the finished logo)
